Aloha Diao Lavina is a teacher and photographer based in Bangkok, Thailand. Her body of work focuses on extensions of stories around her. Aloha’s experiences as a creative writer and a teacher of English literature combines with her creative eye to make fresh, expressive images that are embedded in their specific context. “A picture can change with the perception of the viewer, so my job as a photographer is to allow that creativity to whoever is viewing my images.”
A self-taught artist, she says, “I painted moody watercolors in high school. Then, a high school art teacher told me my technique was completely wrong. That experience brought me two choices I do not regret: to become a good teacher, and to channel my art into something that doesn’t involve brush strokes—and that was when my photography grew into a passion.”
Aloha has won awards at Betterphoto.com. Her clients have included Ran Zuriel in Israel and Dawn and Relentless in Massachusetts, USA. Aloha has been featured in magazines such as Seventeen Magazine and UTATA in the US and Estamos! In Ecuador. Currently, Aloha is working on a project called Faceless Portrait.
